Your Adventure Itinerary

We will arrive in Cusco and proceed with the check-in process at our hotel, where we can take some time to rest and unwind. In the afternoon, there will be optional visits to the vibrant downtown area of Cusco, along with guided walking.

 

After having some free time to explore the city, we will gather for a memorable Welcome Dinner Ceremony at one of Cusco’s most captivating restaurants.

Today, we begin with an early rise in preparation for our transfer to the Inca Sacred Valley.

During our journey, we will make a stop at the Machu Qolqa Inca Temple for a welcome Andean Ceremony session. This will take place at the unique Ruin Site of Raqqchi. Here, we’ll receive an introduction to Peruvian ceremonial sites and seek permission from the «Mountain Gods» for a safe passage through the Andean foothills.

 

 

Following this, we embark on a steep run down the Chincheros Inca Trail and Ruin Site, a distinctive descent to the basin of the Vilcanota River. We pass through a historic Inca trail, once considered the primary entrance to the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

 

 

In the afternoon, a meditation and stretching ceremony awaits us at the Urco’s Prosperity temple.

We begin the day with an early morning start, embarking on the Cachicata Inca Trail. From this point, we can take in the awe-inspiring sight of the Ollantaytambo Inca Sun Pyramids. Following this, we explore the enchanting alleys of Ollantaytambo and its historic Fortress in a breathtaking 9 km loop run that offers stunning scenery.

 

 

Afterwards, we gather for a replenishing breakfast before engaging in another remarkable and culturally enriching run along the Puma Marka Inca Ruins. During this run, we’ll have the opportunity to visit the remarkable Puka Poncho Valley Traditional Weaving Family.

 

Our post-run activities will be celebrated at the Brewery of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

On Day 4, we embark on a run accompanied by the majestic views of the town of Misminay, as we make our way towards the Moray Inca Agricultural laboratory. Our journey continues to the astonishing pre-Inca Maras Salt Mines, promising us a spectacular day with one of the most breathtaking trail runs in Peru.

 

During the afternoon, we allocate time for a well-deserved stretching session at Huayna Qapac’s Inca Temples in the Urubamba vicinity.

On this day, we embark on a run down the iconic Lares Inca Trail, offering a remarkable cultural experience along one of the primary trade routes of the Sacred Valley. This incredible downhill trail was once an integral part of the Qapac Ñan (“Royal Roads of the King”) circuit of Inca Trails.

 

During the afternoon, we will engage in cultural exploration, starting with a visit to traditional Quechua-inspired ceramic shops in Urubamba. Additionally, we’ll have the opportunity to witness the intricate process of crafting the renowned “Maize Chicha,” a fermented sacred drink of the Incas.

A visit to Machu Picchu is undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we are thrilled to share this extraordinary journey during the retreat. The historic site of Machu Picchu stands as one of the most remarkable achievements in art, architecture, and land utilization worldwide, representing the paramount tangible heritage of the Inca civilization.

 

We will immerse ourselves in a full day of gazing at Machu Picchu, with a specially guided visit to the astonishing citadel. Following this, a delightful lunch awaits us in Aguas Calientes. Later, we will board a train at Ollantaytambo railway station for our return journey to Cusco.

In the early morning, we make our way to Cusco for our final run of the retreat. This run will be a unique experience, allowing us to immerse ourselves in history while surrounded by incredible ruins located conveniently close to the city. It’s the perfect opportunity for a sightseeing tour, encompassing remarkable temples, ruin sites, and the vibrant neighborhoods of this phenomenal city.

 

Following this active day, we gather for a Farewell Dinner Ceremony to celebrate the memories we’ve created.

This day is dedicated to your transfer to the airport for your journey back home.

Our Host

Yannick Wende is an Andean born competitive mountain biker, mountaineering enthusiast, and trail runner. His life revolves around the mountains surrounding his birth place in La Paz, Bolivia. Working on various social and environmental programs around the Bolivian and Peruvian Andes has allowed him to understand and communicate an admiration and respect for the Andes through storytelling. Yannick’s partnership with Aire Libre Running has also given him a new opportunity to explore his mountain sanctuary in a new dimension and reconnect to it with this new calling. He is an adventurer who enjoys bird watching, learning about native plants, and he is driven by a determination to make the Andes and promote native community building and cultural development.

On our initial night in Cusco City, we will stay in the heart of downtown, relishing a high-end three-star hotel experience with magnificent city views.

 

Throughout the rest of the Experience, we will be accommodated in a breathtaking mansion in Urubamba (Sacred Valley), adorned with colonial architecture and featuring an outdoor pool. The mansion offers a range of accommodation options, including double and single rooms, each boasting a private bathroom.

 

Standard accommodation option involves double or triple shared lodging.
However, you have the choice to enhance your experience by upgrading to private accommodations at check-out.

In June, the Sacred Valley of Peru enters its Andean winter, characterized by cool days and chilly nights. Anticipate cool, sunlit days with temperatures averaging between 15°C to 20°C (59°F to 68°F), while nights carry a distinct crispness.

 

Mornings often bring mist and a gentle chill, giving way to sunny afternoons with clear mountain views. While generally dry, occasional light showers are possible.
