Ian Ramsey
Writer, educator and mountain athlete Ian Ramsey is a lifelong Mainer who has spent his life at the intersection of creativity, ecology and adventure. He is the founder and director of the Kauffmaunn Program for Environmental Writing and Wilderness Exploration and has led trips around North America and the world. His book of poems Hackable Animal is forthcoming in 2023.

Day 1: Arrival to Acadia – Mount Desert Drive – Acadia Mountain Loop – Echo Lake Picnic & Swim – Sunset Yoga & Meditation
Welcome gathering at Bar Harbor. We then take a walk for a guided tour at the Abbe Museum, a place dedicated to furthering the understanding and appreciation of Maine’s Native American cultures, history and archaeology. We then drive in a private van to Mount Desert Island where we will kick off our first run within the Acadia Mountain Loop. We will head to Echo Lake Beach for an energizing picnic and wild-swimming.
Later, a short drive will take us to our accommodation at Terramor Outdoor Resort for a sunset yoga & meditation session followed by our welcome dinner.

Day 2: Sunrise Meditation – Homestyle breakfast – Ocean Path Trail – Sunset Yoga.
We rise early to a delicious light breakfast before a short drive to Sand Beach where we will have an energizing meditation session.
After a homestyle breakfast, we gather for our 4.4 mile run through the Ocean Path trail, finishing with a succulent brunch at the Burning Tree Restaurant.
After finishing our meal, we will transfer back to our accommodation for a yoga and sound healing session. Later we will enjoy some free time downtown and later gather to share dinner.

Day 3: North Ridge / South Ridge Trail – House Lunch – Wine Tasting – Farewell Dinner
On this day we rise to a tasty breakfast at Terramor Resort to then transfer to Cadillac Mountain, where we will get this trip’s longest run at the North and South Ridges which will offer us an open ascent with spectacular Bar Harbor and Frenchman Bay views. After completing this run, we gather for lunch before our transfer to the Bar Harbor Cellar where we will enjoy a wine tasting session while we sit and relax by their vineyard.
We will then travel back to our accomodation for a yoga & sound healing practice, followed by our farewell dinner. Later, we gather around the fire pit to share experiences.

Day 4: Sunrise at Cadillac Mountain – Morning Yoga – Farewell
Giving this experience a glorious closure, this morning we will have the option of rising very early (4:00 am) to witness the sunrise at Mount Cadillac. Later, we gather for a final morning yoga and mindfulness practice to soon after share our farewell breakfast to close the experience.

The average temperature in Bar Harbor in June for a typical day ranges between 18ºC (65ºF) and 11ºC (52ºF). Some would describe it as moderately chilly with a gentle breeze. Summer daytime highs average in the 70ºs, and it can get chilly at night.

All of our trips are designed to welcome hikers and runners of all fitness levels. We will assign different guides to groups of different levels so that no one is left behind. You will feel safe and comfortable throughout the trip whether you’re a professional runner that wants to add these runs to your training, an amateur who wants to explore the world of trail-running or a casual hiker who wishes to challenge themselves while enjoying nature in a secure environment.

Fly to Boston Logan International Airport (IATA Code: BOS) and catch a direct flight to Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport (BHB) making sure to arrive at least a couple of hours before the retreat begins and to leave a couple of hours after.
Direct flights from Boston’s Logan Airport land at the Hancock County – Bar Harbor Airport, 5 miles from Bar Harbor.
USA national airlines serve Bangor International Airport, about 45 miles / one hour from Bar Harbor.
Car rentals are available at both airports.
By Car
The 270 miles drive from Boston to Bar Harbor is relatively densely populated and you won’t be driving through large patches of open wilderness with services available.
